Metadata

Metadata is used to add more information to your financial data.

S8 Money uses the following metadata.

Labels

Labels are used to categorize accounts and transactions. For example, a savings account used for vacation funds could be labeled vacation, a transaction for auto insurance could be labeled auto-insurance.

Group Labels

Labels can have nested labels (child labels). Such labels are called group labels. Group labels cannot be attached to transactions or accounts. They are used for reporting only.

Consider you have labels for mortgage-principal, mortgage-interest, property-tax and condo-fees. You can create a group label housing to nest these 4 labels. You can then report on the individual labels or under a grouped housing label.

Nesting child labels is not supported. Only a single level of nesting is permitted. For example you cannot have a nesting like this.

auto
| - auto-maintenance
  | - auto-gas
  | - auto-service
| - auto-insurance

If you need more reporting options, you can use multi labelling - attach the auto-maintenance label to all transactions with auto-gas and auto-service transactions.

The Metadata - Labels page allows addition / update / deletion of labels.

Only add labels you truly care about tracking.
